ABOUT THE BOOK

WATER FROM THE STONE is a novel about the greatest miracle of Heaven and Earth. On a stone near the stream in the village of Djunis, in Serbia, St. Mary was sitting. She was speaking to a girl Milojka. Why did She come? What did She say? What was Her message? How Her appearance turmoiled souls and minds and  brought the lives of many people to a breaking point? Where else She was?  Where She will come again? The answers to these and many other issues  provides a novel WATER FROM STONE.

WATER FROM THE STONE is a true story about  faith and disbelieve. About those who haven't seen but have believed. About those who have seen but haven't believed. About a  man's constant battle against sinister insinuations by the enemy of the human and God. About the sin and punishment. About repentance. About diligent workers in the field of Lord. About many signs of God's presence on Earth. About the triumph of good over evil. About the grounds for hope. About the goodness and merciful love of Mother of God and Mother of all the people. About the tears that flow over  the palms of God.

REVIEWS – ABSTRACTS

In the novel "Water from the stone," the writer uses, in a way, very demanding narrative technique. Namely, the narrative structure of the novel is made of retrospective talks of  a wide range of characters, talking from a first person singular,  who take participation in tailoring the story by themselves, that the novelist is telling to us. Therefore, the novel has a diffuse structure, which can expose every writer to a  danger of losing  the narrative thread, or every reader to an idea that it is   interrupted at some moments. But regardless of these facts, the fable of the novel remains smooth and natural, so that regardless of the diffuse structure of the novel's construction  it seems very solid.
Narrative style of the writer also contribute to that, which is very readable and receptive. That style is not imposed to a  reader as a reading task. Furthermore, the characters in the novel are clearly and simply defined. Because of that,  the characters are understandable, recognizable, and in the end, dare to say – simple. And precisely that "simplicity" of the characters makes this novel truly special. Most of the characters stands in opposition relations, which clearly indicates the conceptual  structure of the novel. Almost antique catharsis of individual characters  is clearly visible and expressed, deliberately  transferred  to the wider society, which leaves us no doubt about the conceptual essence of the novel "Water from the stone."
In fact, the novel has four basic opposite "conceptual essences", placed in two opposed pairs of concepts. On one side is a faith, a faith presented in a man from a primeval, faith that simply evokes the sincerity of man,  which is against a  superficial piety, a piety that does not have those essential honesty that is extrovert and loaded with the material "earthly" burden.
Another pair of opposed concepts makes a miracle, a miracle as the term for  unconditional sincerity, a miracle as an essential manifestation of a faith, which is against of a deviant society, a society burdened with material aspects, a society that tends to canonize even religion itself, a society which ,in the microcosm of the novel,  really gets scary, universal, contemporary dimension.
Therefore, irrespective of the described time of action (end of XIX and  the beginning of the XX century) the novel "Water from the stone” is certainly up-to-dated. Topical up to catharsis.

QUOTE FROM THE BOOK

Monk SAVA

     “Glory to God, it happened!”
The rumor came to me right on this great day,  when we celebrate the Holy Archangel Gabriel. Those on heaven, who is herald of ultimate will and whose task is to notify God's secrets.
"It happened", shouted in joy my soul, when I heard people arrived to the monastery courtyard, and when I  figured out what they are speaking about. They gathered in groups, watching each other in disbelief, turning around as if waiting for something, putting their heads closer to others. They were  whispering. Hardly letting the words out through squeezed  throats, straining them through a trembling  lips. Swallowing  them. Misplacing them in the dashed and intricate sentences. Losing them in the thoughts that had overcome, and far beyond,  the power of their minds and the power of their understanding of the world. They spoke as talking about the secret and wonder. But all of them  said the same. What I have been waiting  for twenty years. I have all turned into joy. Into the gleeful game of my heart. Into the song of a gratitude to Her,  whose hands were the throne  and bowel the   abode to living God. Only She, the Holy Mary, knows how many  hours and days, months and years,  I summed in the nights that I was keeping vigil, kneeling before Her. In front of  the icon, showing how Hers shroud,  shelters and protects against evils, all those praying to Her,  with faith, love and hope. Only She knows just how I was fervently praying for a one single favor. For the grace greater than all others. And here it is,  it happened! By Her grace, for sure. Whether due to  my prayers, I do not know. In fact, I do not dare to say even to myself,  that there is my share also, in this gift from heaven. In this miracle of miracles. In this blessing, immeasurable, and beyond all others. I do not dare to say that She, Empress of Heaven and Earth, has heard a humble and stuttered whisperings, of  sinful and unworthy suppliant, and satisfy them.
And yet, it seems that it was just like that.
Glory to You, Mother! Glory to You for all!
